Weird Looks

about

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

"How'd things get so crooked, backwards and wicked?"

Considering the times, a pertinent line among this somewhat indolent, hiss happy, living room jangle by O and company.

A song of contrasts, 'weird looks' makes no attempt to break barriers sonic-ally or structurally, however, it's the minor details within the lyrics that aim to resound. Slightly sardonic in tone, Owen sets up a combination of miniature scenes that may confound the listener, yet are codes to be cracked should one try.

Ending with a question but no answer, a horn is cued - Perhaps a call to action?

lyrics

While he was riding horses / She was in the pigpen / Carefully sorting thru her curses and her blessings / Chewing on some grass / drinking a juice box / No matter what you say to her that kid ain't gonna talk / She got her good looks from all of the weird shit that she done / Ain't that disgusting / Isn't that something / Wishing on a starfish / Living by the ocean / Fishing for our breakfast when the sun comes up each morning / Cackle at the birdies / Whistle with the seagulls / Measure what we're worth by hating other people / We got our good looks from all of the weird shit that we done / Ain't that disgusting / But all of the good things we done / They got so many weird looks / How'd things get so crooked, backwards and wicked?
